More about Melbourne

Here are a few more pics from Melbourne.

Danielle very generously let us stay in our old house, and it was quite bizarro living amongst our old furniture and stuff, because it was the same, but funkier (in the style sense, not the fragrant sense). We arrived to a very cold Melbourne. It's disturbing that this is how Danielle had to dress on Christmas day...it's like we were in the Northern Hemisphere again.

Danielle put on a fantastic barbecue for us after Boxing Day, but for some reason I didn't take any photos on our camera. So if anyone took pics please send me some!

Also got to catch up with these girls, seen here at Michelle's glasshouse at her Portsea mansion. No, not really, we were at the Botanic Gardens, which are highly underrated and just as nice as Central Park in my opinion.

Then on New Years Day we drove down to Cape Schank to Sally's holiday house on a golf course. Not lying about that one - see, there's a golf buggy behind us in the driveway to their place.

2 days later, after no beach visits (too cold!) we began our journey back to the big stinky apple. Though our flight was not as hideous as Andrew's return flight (9 hour delay in Melbourne, 15 hour delay in Auckland, making it over 50 hours door to door!!!) we did have trouble on the final leg of our journey when 5 of the 38 Korean school students on board our flight started fainting and vomiting, and they only had one teacher with them (who spoke very limited english). The flight attendants deduced that the poor kids hadn't eaten or drank anything the whole journey from Korea, which lead to dehydration, so they began force feeding them water and pretzels. This confused the ones who weren't sick because they didn't speak english and probably wondered why they were the only passengers receiving this special (and rather frenzied) attention. The little girl next to us thought we were creepy making her drink her water, and dobbing her in when the doctor on board asked us if she'd had all of it.

When we landed we were held hostage for an hour til paramedics and quarantine officials cleared the plane of having any suspicious virus. Oh and here's some advice: don't take half a sleeping pill an hour before landing like I did - our San Francisco stopover was like Weekend at Bernies for poor David.

Here is a photo of my final meal in Australia - a delicious Jester's pie at Sydney Airport. Do they have Jester's stores in Melbourne? If not, someone open one, it was the most delicious pie I've ever tasted. The gravy was amazing.

Ragoooo. Have you had a Tuckshop pie before? They're ok, a little dry but beggars can't be choosers.

Tuck Shop is an Aussie cafe here in New York for all you devoted comments-section readers! They sell pies, sausage rolls, lamingtons, vanilla slices (they don't call them snot blocks here) and vegemite and Tim Tam packets. They charge $6 per single pack of Tim Tams though. eek!
